Sure hope not, because it’s starting to feel good
Giving up drinking is on its way to changing my career path and possibly my life. Given that I haven’t had an alcohol-related ‘off-day’ ever since January 1st of this year, the amount of thinking I’ve done and action I’ve taken in several areas of my life is astounding. I’ve had days that were tough, where I felt bad, slept terribly and was low on energy from morning ’til night. But in no way can these days be compared to a day after a night of drinking and the insane self-inflicted tax it imposed on me.
Granted, I was primed for this. Primed for change, primed for a new direction, and even though the days and weeks have felt normal, maybe even a little slow and uneventful, looking back over spring and summer, I can see how I’ve been ramping up my productivity and really started to take on challenges that could actually change things. It hasn’t come from any typical ‘productivity bro’ behaviour, nor has it been a short spurt followed by a drought, which has been my pattern up until this year.
This has been a consequence of renewed energy, a clear mind and clean body working like they should, day in and day out for months on end.
I have let go of old dreams, cleared out possessions and made room for new ideas and directions. I applied for and got accepted into a new programme, spurred by the clear-sighted realization that I need change and new challenges, and can’t stay stuck in the same job for the rest of my life. I have structured and prepared my finances, and I am actively working towards creating more streams of income that will carry me forward in the future.
I am crossing my fingers this is not just a temporary high in what feels like a life constantly passing over hilltops and through valleys. It is time for a change. I need a change. And I want to change.
